The Bundesliga has one more attraction: striker Luca Waldschmidt is returning to Germany and joining VfL Wolfsburg. He gets a long-term contract.
Bundesliga soccer team VfL Wolfsburg, which started the season perfectly, has signed international Luca Waldschmidt. As the Wolves announced on Sunday, the 25-year-old will receive a four-year contract. Waldschmidt comes from Portuguese record champion Benfica Lisbon, both clubs agreed to keep the transfer details confidential.
“He is an excellent fit for our team, not only athletically but also in terms of his character. His development is far from over, and we are therefore delighted to be able to tackle our goals together with him,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer.
Nine league goals for Benfica
The top scorer at the 2019 European Under-21 Championship has already played in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt, Hamburger SV and SC Freiburg before making the leap to Portugal last year, where he scored nine goals in 27 league games.
“I’m very happy to be back in the Bundesliga. It’s something I really wanted. I am convinced of the club’s path, the philosophy and ambitions of VfL coincide one hundred percent with my ideas,” said the seven-time international.
